Women In the Church (WIC)
Our purpose for the Women in the Church (WIC) organization is “to encourage each woman to know Christ personally and to grow in Him, through prayer and Bible study so that she may glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” We aim to make this purpose a reality as our women are given opportunities to respond to the gospel and to pray, study Scripture, fellowship with other believers, and serve the Lord in the church and in the community together.
To that end, our 2008 Theme Verse is:
Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything be prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
"WIC", the acronym for Women in the Church, has another meaning for our organization. It symbolizes the old-fashioned kerosene lamp with a wick. In order for the kerosene lamp to give light, it must be filled with oil. The wick must rest continually in the oil and must be controlled by the knob on the side of the lamp, and the wick must be trimmed regularly in order to burn effectively. Similarly, the believer's life must be filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit. As the wick rests in the oil and is fully saturated with it, so must the WIC rest in Christ Jesus and draw life and spiritual strength from His Holy Spirit. Any spiritual light radiating from the Christian is a result of the indwelling presence of Christ. The knob on the side of the lamp represents the Word of God, by which the lives of believers must be daily regulated and trimmed in obedience to His revealed will.
Prosperity women's ministry has a rich heritage, dating back to 1915 and the beginning of the Women's Missionary Society. Our first "circle" was established in 1915 and named after charter member Ellie Hunter. In 1971 the Stroup Circle was formed, named for the 12th pastor of Prosperity Church, Rev. Paul A. Stroup. And, last but not least, in 1984 the Alma Wallace Circle was organized. It was named for Alma O. Wallace, a dear Christian lady who taught Sunday School for 60 years.
We host a Ladies' Retreat each spring, and are invited to attend the PCA's WIC Retreat at Ridgehaven in Rosman, NC, in the fall. We host a lovely Christmas banquet for all ladies of the church on the first Monday night in December.
We invite all ladies of our congregation, from 18 to 100, to join us as we grow in our faith and joyfully serve the Lord
